Heart on My Sleeve
When Emily from Tin Can Knits told me about this project last year I was blown away. A collection of sweaters by some of the most respected and inspiring designers out there to raise money for charity, what a fantastic way to spread love and give back!
When you buy the ebook, $16.80 of the $18 USD purchase price goes to the Against Malaria Foundation.
(the other $1.20 is made up of Paypal and Ravelry fees)
Each sweater is worked in DK from the bottom up, with a yoke construction and the same gauge. If, like me, you are indecisive it means you can start knitting and decide on the finer details of which yoke later for a few of the styles. As the sweater is worked from the bottom up you can also use your sleeve as a swatch - win / win! What are you waiting for you could cast on right now....
As part of the collection Emily and Alexa asked three designers to contribute a heart motif that can be used to embellish the sleeve or hem of your sweater.
I was bowled over when Emily told me that they wanted me to create a woolly heart motif that could be duplicate stitched onto a completed garment. If you have not used duplicate stitch before I have created a handy video tutorial to help you learn the basic - the technique is very easy too! Scroll to the bottom of this post to find the video tutorial...
What's the collection all about?
There are eight amazing designs to choose from and I love that each one has such a strong identity. Each designer's style really shines through and that is what makes this such a special collection.
As with all tincanknits patterns the sweaters are sized from itty bitty 0-6 mnth to 4XL, so you can knit one for everyone in the family (just take a look at the stunning front cover shot of Tanis Lavallee from Tanis Fiber Arts and her lovely family).
I certainly have my favourite - the yoke on Bristol's sweater just melted my heart the moment I saw it. I have plans to make one for me and one for little Miss M ...
