A Sock Adventure …

Bend and Fold from Correlative 2018

Bend and Fold from Correlative 2018

Back in January 2016 I released my first ever The Knitting Goddess sock pattern - since then Joy and I have worked on eighteen sock patterns together. The sock club has been a huge part of my knitting journey and I have enjoyed sharing it with you all immensely. Needless to say I am really looking forward to 2019…

Previous Sock Clubs

Each year we have have a sock club theme. In 2016 it was Blue Skies; a collection of socks dreamt up as I moved from the UK to Australia and settled into my new home. In 2017 the theme was Circles and I had an absolute ball thinking of ways to represent the circle in a hand knitted sock. Finally, this year I created the Correlative Club - a series of six socks that are perfectly mis-matched - pairs that go together without being identical.

The Knitting Goddess Sock Club 2019

In 2019 I will be designing another six sock patterns for Joy’s fantastic yarn club. The theme this year is a very tasty one - Gelato!
When Joy and I started talking about the new sock club months ago we decided we wanted to experiment with some fresh pastel colours. This is not my usual “go-to” range of colours but I love working with things slightly outside of my usual choices, it really inspires my designing and encourages me to be creative.

When the package arrived on my doorstep the first thing I thought about when I opened it was “ice-cream” …. at that moment Gelato 2019 was born.

Sock Club Details

I thought it would be fun to talk about the inspiration for next years sock collection and run through some of the details in this blog post.

What does the sock club include?

Six instalments featuring 100g of yarn from Joy at The Knitting Goddess and a pattern created by me for each specific colourway.

As before you get a choice of three bases; Bluefaced Leicester and Nylon, Britsock and BFL Mohair (for those who prefer their socks 100% natural with no nylon - the mohair is used as an alternative strengthener)

On the colour front you can choose between Loud or Soft! I really love this option as it means you can customise your sock club to suit your colour preferences.

When does the sock club start?

The club starts in January and a new design will be released every two months throughout the year. Meaning you will get a package in January, March, May, July, September and November.

How much does it cost?

You can choose to sign up for the full year (£145.35 incl VAT + postage) or for an individual month (£25.50 incl VAT + postage + £2 if you opt for one of the optional yarn bases). Sign ups for 2019 are now open. They will close at the end of November unless sold out before then…

Postage is available worldwide!

Will the patterns be very complicated?

All of the designs will be accessible for a range of knitters from adventurous beginner to more experienced knitters looking for a relaxing knit. None of the patterns will feature particularly complication techniques or require huge amounts of concentration to knit. This year I am focussing on simpler patterns with easy to remember repeats or small sections of patterning. Perfect for travel knitting, watching tv knitting, knit night knitting or any other style of relaxed knitting you can think of!

There will be three top down patterns and three toe up patterns. Each pattern will include two heels; a short row heel and a heel flap style - meaning you can choose your preferred method or try something new.

The socks will come in six adult sizes ensuring you won’t find yourself stuck between two sizes that aren’t quite right. The smaller sizes will also work well for older children and teens (if you fancy knitting some socks for your loved ones).

The patterns will be:
- Clear and easy to follow.
- Any charts will be accompanied by full written instructions.
- Tutorial videos will be available for a wide range of techniques used in the socks.
- Hints and tips to help you enjoy your sock adventure.

The patterns and colourways will be exclusive to club members for one month.

Will details of the design be released ahead of time?

While we know that many of you like a surprise we also know that sometimes it is better to get a sense of what you are buying. This year Joy and I are going to have a “secret page” on her website where you can view the colours and some sock snippets before you commit to the club.

If you love a surprise - don’t worry - you can just avoid the well hidden “secret page” …

Tell me more about the inspiration for the sock club…

This year I wanted to play with simple textures, lace and patterns to create really enjoyable patterns.

Here are the six inspiration images I have used to create the sock designs to give you a sense of what each design may look like.
